The Oregon College Savings Plan is a traditional 529 plan that allows you to invest money now and leverage tax benefits when you withdraw it later to pay for qualified education expenses when it’s time for college.
You can start with as little as $25 and can even set up a payroll deduction or automatic monthly plan with most employers. The current minimum contribution for payroll deduction is only $15. Currently, you can contribute until your Oregon 529 account balance is reaches $310,000 but your account balance is not limited as its possible for your investment group to grow. Historically, most 529 plans typically increase their contribution limits over time, so you may be able to contribute more as time passes.
Tax Benefits: Great news for Oregon residents – by investing in your Oregon’s 529 plan, you can deduct up to $2,120 on your state income taxes for single filer and $4,240 for married filers. You also get federal income tax benefits as you do not pay income tax on your earnings. Out-of-state participants still get the federal tax benefits.
